President Trump warns North Korea, ‘Do not underestimate us’
President Trump highlighted the U.S.’ military might and warned North Korea, “Do not underestimate us,” in a speech he delivered from Seoul.
Speaking to the South Korean National Assembly, Trump drew a sharp contrast between the “miracle” of the south and the North Korean regime, which he called a “hell that no person deserves”.
Trump added, “At the center of this military cult is a deranged belief in the leader’s destiny to rule as parent protector over a conquered Korean peninsula and an enslaved Korean people.”
Trump, who said aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines were currently positioned in the waters off the peninsula, issued a warning to Kim Jong Un.
Trump calls for North Korea to end nuclear crisis, ‘make a deal’
President Trump met with mixed reactions in South Korea
“The regime has interpreted America’s past restraint as weakness. This would be a fatal miscalculation,” the President said. “Today I hope I speak not only for our countries, but for all civilized nations when I say to the North: do not underestimate us.”
Trump, who called on North Korea to “make a deal” at a press conference the day before, urged the regime to stop developing ballistic missiles and “complete verifiable and total denuclearization.”
Trump also repeated his calls for China and Russia to sever their ties with North Korea.
Speaking on the one-year anniversary of his own election win, Trump also briefly acknowledged the state of the U.S.

“Our stock market is at an all-time high. Unemployment is at a 17-year low. We are defeating ISIS. We are strengthening our judiciary including a Supreme Court justice and on and on and on.”
He also took the time to name Korean golfers as “some of the best on Earth,” going on to plug his own golf club in New Jersey, where Park Sung Hyun won the women’s U.S. Open earlier this year.
Trump had been scheduled to make an unannounced early-morning trip to the demilitarized zone amid heightened tensions, but Marine One was forced to turn back after just five minutes due to poor weather conditions.
