London police evacuated a subway station Friday after reports of gun shots sparked a stampede.

The Metropolitan Police issued a statement saying they responded to an “incident” at the Oxford Circus station. An initial search found no evidence that an incident took place and no casualties have been reported.

People were reportedly “screaming and crying” as they left the station. Unconfirmed reports of shots being fired circulated and police urged people to avoid the area.

“We continue to respond to an incident at Oxford Circus,” the British Transport Police said in a statement. “The station is currently closed, please avoid the area at this time. Officers are on scene.”

Scotland Yard said police responded “as if the incident is terrorist related.”

London’s underground system has been on high alert since a bomb detonated inside a train Sept. 15. The explosion failed to kill anyone but 18 people sustained minor injuries. The Islamic State claimed the failed attack and a number of suspects have been arrested for alleged involvement.
