Christians Under Attack, but Muslims Get a Free Pass After Refusing to Allow Children to Visit a Different-Faith Churches On School Trips
Education council in Britain cracks down on “Islamophobia” after parents refused to send their children to local mosques.
Local newspaper Stoke Sentinel reports (via Breitbart) that after some parents withdrew their children from field trips to Islamic places of worship, the Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education (SACRE) in Staffordshire produced a document arguing for the visits. The government-funded organization claims that the trips are necessary for conditioning British children to live in “diverse” Britain.
Despite families’ rights to withdraw their children from the mosque trips, SACRE called it a “serious matter” that stemmed from “Islamophobia.”
“While objections are raised about visits to a number of places of worship, they are most frequently about visits to mosques, which raises the bigger issue of Islamaphobia [sic] and how this can be addressed,” wrote the education body in a guidance to local schools.
Parents who refused to send their children to mosques cited concerns over both the prohibitive costs and safety of the potentially under-supervised trips. Some families highlighted their concerns over the “political agenda” behind the activity.
“As long as there are also trips to places of worship of other religions too, but usually it’s just the mosque and children are expected to pray or even dress as if they were Muslim for this purpose. Would Muslims go to pray in the churches of other religions?” said one parent, Lynne Smith.
“I was called a bad parent by a teacher at my daughter’s primary school for not letting her visit a mosque on a school trip,” wrote Gemma Hollins, who added that “the majority of Muslims” in her child’s class refused to attend a church visit scheduled by the school.
SACRE previously drew controversy in 2010 when it issued guidance to schools to cancel swimming lessons during the month of Ramadan out of fears that Muslim schoolchildren would swallow water and break their fast. The education council also released an 11-page guide advising schools to halt sex education classes to prevent Muslim children from having impure thoughts during the “holy” month.
